Hi, I’m Janine, lover of nibs, ink and beautiful script. Since establishing Serpentine Calligraphy, I have provided lettering services to wedding and event planners, luxury brands, and private clients.
I loved handwriting even as a child. It seemed so expressive to me. I also noticed and loved Copperplate whenever I came across it, though I didn’t always understand what it was. I just thought some people had exceptionally beautiful handwriting!
Then one day, I saw a film of a lady calligraphing an envelope in Copperplate and I suddenly had a window into a whole new world. The sound of the nib gliding across the paper, the skilled flexing of the nib to produce the swells, and the shapes expertly drawn to create the letters all left me utterly mesmerised.
I was hooked and my calligraphy love affair began.
After a lot of research, study and practice, I was awarded a Distinction in Copperplate by the Calligraphy and Lettering Arts Society, and shortly afterwards began building Serpentine Calligraphy. I’ve moved from a fast-paced, lively career in children’s television to the slow, careful process of calligraphy, now happily bringing clients’ words, memories and special occasions to life with beautiful script. Yet as careful and slow as calligraphy necessarily is, I haven’t forgotten how to work to schedule and meet a deadline. You’re in safe hands!
